Book Description
Wondering About is the personal journey of a
mind that has used imagination, curiosity, and wonder to try to make
sense of the world, using science as the bedrock of the road taken. The
journey is personal in that Mr. Strumfels has recently discovered that
he suffers from Aspergers’ Syndrome, a form of high functioning autism
that makes relating to other human beings extraordinarily difficult.
Through the many sufferings of this condition prior to Mr. Strumfels’
diagnosis, his curiosity and passion to understand have allowed him to
keep asking questions, and develop his own mind to where he can share it
with others
Editorial Reviews
Review
Wonder and curiosity have sparked in Strumfels a deep hunger to
understand how things work--from cosmic scale down to subatomic
particles ... These are the wanderings of a lively mind, ripe for
understanding, meaning and purpose. --Kirkus
Strumfels' passion for his work--both in science and as a writer ... This book could easily serve as the introductory volume to a series of books on specific scientific disciplines. --Ron Kaplan
Wondering About is like sampling from the best Dinner Buffet ever created. Rather than Lobster, Shrimp, and Prime Beef, his menu is science, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, and our relationship to ourselves, our world, and the universe. --Simon Barret

Reading "Wondering About" one could not escape Strumfels' passion for
the sciences. Even though some parts are difficult for a layman to
follow, this seems more a flaw of trying to incorporate too much into
one book. Perhaps in the future he will will write more books,
elaborating on these subjects and making it easy for the layman to
follow. I would certianly look forward to those.
I was also interested in his recent discovery that he has Asperger's Syndrome, And that this has been the driving force behind a life studying the natural world. I would like to learn more about his experiences with this condition, how it has affected him in his life, and shaped the person he is. It is clear that he intends to present his experience with the condition as inspirational, but it would be nice to more about David Strumfels, the person himself - something of a real autobiography

A number of wirters with Aspergerger's have written their own view or
autobiography of their experience. Strumfels' effort is the the first
to present what he calls an "intellectual autobiography" of where his
Asperger's has taken him, and it is a fascinating journey has takes us
on. It is well worth the reading, even though it is rather too dense in
spots.
Strumfels' tour through the major sciences has has travelled though in his life is breathtaking, alsmost too much so. The major influences in his life - Asimov, Bronowski's "Ascent of Man" series, and Richard Dawkin's writings on evolution - make the basis for his intellectual autobiography, as well as a number of other writers, such as Brian Greene, Stephen Hawking, Matt Ridley, and Daniel Dennett.
I look forward to Strumfels' more detailed description of his journeys, especially in chemistry, biology, astronomy, physics, geology, and cosmology.
